3. Review of workshop outline and minimum technology requirements

10 MINUTE BREAK

PREPARE

1. Discuss possible "Gotchas" during install
2. Download and Install XMAPP local webserver
3. Download Joomla and unzip the files

HANDS ON

1. Reminder of possible "Gotchas" during install
2. Install XAMPP on your computer
3. Test XAMPP
4. Setup database and user in database using phpMyAdmin
5. Install Joomla

NOTES

This is the second BETA run of this class.  This means that in addition to this class being free, I will be asking folks to provide feedback on what can be done to improve this workshop.  This class will remain free at Fresh Workshops.

PREREQUISITES

• Desktop or Laptop on a high speed connection
• Windows XP or Vista
• Ability to call a long distance number (you can use Skype's monthly $3 plan for this)
  

This class is for people who plan to install their own version of Joomla.  We will be installing a webserver locally on your computer, talking about best practices and working in phpMyAdmin, MySQL.  Cpanel is a popular control panel for website hosting accounts.  It will be discussed but not used so don't worry if you don't have a domain or hosting space.  This workshop is to learn the basics of installing Joomla. 

If you don't need to know how to install Joomla, don't sign up.
